14th December, 2024 – Local Government and Rural Development Permanent Secretary, Maambo Haamaundu has congratulated Local Authorities (LAs) for the tremendous improvement in service delivery.
Mr Haamaundu is also impressed that over 90 Local Authorities across the country have qualified for the Zambia Devolution Support Program capital grant.
Speaking when he officially closed the five – day National Budgeting Hearings held at Legacy Resort in Chongwe yesterday, Mr Haamaundu said he recognized the efforts being made in various Local Authorities adding that if LAs continued on the same trajectory, issues of appearing before the Public Accounts Committee would end.
The PS appealed to Principal Officers to set personal goals which are consistent with the overall objective of the Local Authority and that of the country.
Further, Mr Haamaundu urged all Local Authorities to ensure that the output budgets they presented put a smile on the faces of the people in their respective districts.
“As we go back, let’s ensure that what we were working on (budgets) have meaning and purpose to the lives of ordinary people and should put a smile on the faces of the people, ” Mr Haamaundu stressed.
Twenty – one (21) Local Authorities from Western, Southern and Central provinces convened at Legacy Resort in Chongwe for the National Budget Hearings for the 2025 Local Authority Output-Based budgets. The Meetings also reviewed the 2024 budget performance, and heard submissions on the review of the Local
Government Act No. 2 of 2019. In addition, there was a presentation on the rollout of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) communication strategy.
